Younger Onset Dementia is a form of Dementia diagnosed prior to the age of 65 years and according to Dementia Australia Prevalence Data there are currently and estimated 28300 people diagnosed with Younger Onset Dementia in Australia.
Under 65 years is generally not a time when you would expect a dementia diagnosis and participants lives are turned upside down by the changes that occur. Families are often busy navigating employment, young and growing children, financial obligations, careers, and aging parents and have no experience and limited capacity to learn about available services and supports required.
As an independent provider, we at YOD Reflections can provide you with information and resources required to connect you to the supports and services you need. If you are under 65 years and have a formal dementia diagnosis, you are eligible to apply for access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Our NDIS and Dementia experienced Support coordinators can provide you assistance to:
- Help you to understand and navigate the NDIS.
- Assist you to prepare for and attend your NDIS review meeting.
- Assist you to understand the inclusions of your plan.
- Connect you with provider and service options, so you can choose who supports you.
- Assist you to manage service agreements and the financial components of your plan.
- Help you to understand the role of Allied Health providers (Physio, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist etc).
- Walk beside you and become a trusted support, helping you to build capacity so you know who to reach out to when problems arise.
- Assist you to build strong relationships within your support network.
- Help you to plan for the future and explore long term accommodation options as required.
- Assist you to be prepared for any change in circumstances and your NDIS review.
